Do you guys know that luxury carmaker Land Rover also makes smartphones? Yes, the British brand of four-wheel drive vehicles launched its first phone back in 2018. And now, the carmaker is back with its second smartphone which is designed for adventure enthusiasts. Dubbed Explore R, the smartphone is inspired by the Land Rover Defender. This Android-powered phone is manufactured by Land Rover in collaboration with Bullitt Group, an international mobile phone and consumer electronics company.
The Land Rover Explore R smartphone is aimed at travelers, trekkers and outdoor lovers. It is designed to withstand few falls and harsh outdoor conditions as well. The smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch screen with Corning Gorilla glass 6 protection. Also, it is MIL SPEC 810H certified for shock resistance and extreme temperatures. It has been drop-tested onto steel from 1.8m. Besides that, the device is dust and sand proof and has an IP68 waterproof rating. This means, it can last for 35 minutes under water at a depth of 1.5 meters.
The rugged phone comes with a Sony dual pixel 12MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera. The phone boasts a Mediatek Helio P35 MT 6765 chipset with a 2.3GHz octa-core processor. It comes with 4GB RAM and external storage of 64GB which is further expandable up to 256GB. The smartphone currently runs on Android 9 but will soon receive an update to Android 10. It comes with a 3,100 mAh battery which is claimed to last 1.5 days by the manufacturer.
The Land Rover Explore R smartphone features weather resistant fingerprint scanner and facial unlock. Interestingly, the smartphone comes with pre-installed offline topographical map service. It is offered by Ordnance Survey agency in UK and by ViewRanger in Europe. The Land Rover Explore R smartphone is priced at £399(around $535 USD) and is currently available for purchase from Land Rover’s website.
