Armin Strom, a high luxury watch manufacturer based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland has teamed up with corporate collector Wealth Solutions to design a very unusual timepiece. Scheduled to make its debut during Baselworld 2016, the limited edition watch contains drops of the world’s oldest cognac. The movement of the Armin Strom’s cognac watch features a small capsule containing a 1762 Gautier Cognac. Reckoned to be the world’s oldest Cognac sold at auction, the rare spirit bottle was opened by Wealth Solutions in November 2015 to celebrate its partnership with Armin Storm.
The spirited design of the Armin Strom’s cognac watch is formulated by Claude Greisler, Armin Strom’s chief horologist. The design protects the movement while incorporating the rare spirit. Drops from the rare 1762 Gautier Cognac are contained in a sealed sapphire crystal disc positioned at 5 o’clock. The manual wind timepiece will come with a power reserve of five days.
Limited to 40 units only, the luxury watch will be produced in stainless steel, 18k rose gold and titanium cases. Also, backside of the watch will be adorned with a hand-engraved design of a bunch of grapes. Sadly, there are no details about the pricing of watch right now. For further information, we will have to wait for The World Watch and Jewellery Show which will run from March 17 – 24 in Basel, Switzerland.
The 1762 Gautier Cognac bottle features an original handwritten label and was bottled in 1840. It was sold during the Bonhams New York’s Whisky, Cognac and Rare Spirits auction back in 2014 for a huge price of US$60,000.
