Some of you might have heard of Ecocapsule which fetched a lot of attention few months back. Well, for those who don’t know what it is; let me familiarize you with the portable home. Ecocapsule is an off grid self-sustaining microhome which comes with built-in wind turbine and solar panels, therefore requires no external power source. Developed by Slovakia-based Company Nice Architects, the eco-friendly pod is again in the limelight. The company recently announced that Ecocapsule is through with the prototype stage and is now heading to the production phase.
Weighing just 1,500 kg, the compact egg shaped pod measures 4.5 meters in length, 2.4 meters in width and 2.5 meters in height. The low-energy house offers a total floor space of around 107 square feet and its body is covered with 2.6-square meters of high-efficiency solar cells along with a retractable pole that holds a 750W wind turbine. Easy to transport, the capsule can accommodate two people and comes equipped with a small seating area, workspace and a bed. Other features include a custom-designed H20-free toilet, built-in kitchenette with running water, toilet and a hot shower.
The wind-powered and solar powered self-sustaining home collects energy through the 750-watt wind turbine and a series of solar cells (600-Watt capacity). This energy is stored in a 9,744 Wh high-capacity battery that can provide five of power to the pod. Rainwater gets collected in a 145-gallon reservoir after running through a ceramic filter. The built-in water filters allow users to utilize any water source.
All the energy and water levels are monitored by a central computer which can be controlled via a smartphone or tablet. It is also connected to the sensors on outside of the capsule to record rainfall, humidity and temperature.
Designed to offer an unmatched dwelling experience to the users, the Ecocapsule pod can be used for camping, as a research station, a tourist lodge, emergency housing or a humanitarian-action unit. Ecocapsule by Nice Architects will be available for pre-order late this year with an expected delivery during the first quarter of 2016. The price will be announced by the manufacturers in the next few months.
